BALKANOPHONIA is a vocal-instrumental band, which performs a Balkan colored World Music style. Their music is a mix of Balkan, Gypsy, Latin, Pop and Classical music. It is an unique combination of original and traditional Balkan music, as well as world hits with new arrangements. Members of the band have played on many world music, classical and jazz festivals and great venues worldwide, such as International Performing Arts Center in Moscow (Russia), Glenn Gould Studio – Toronto (Canada), Kolarac Foundation Concert Hall in Belgrade (Serbia), Jazzkaar Festival in Tallin (Estonia), Kustendorf fest (Serbia), Ethno Jazz Festival – Wroclaw (Poland), International Ethno Jazz Festival – Chisinau (Moldova)…
MEMBERS:
NIKOLA STARCEVIC (guitar), was born in 1980. He graduated at the Belgrade Music Academy - FMU, in Professor Vera Ogrizovic’s class, and now he works as a classical guitar teacher in Belgrade-Serbia. He composes and performs various styles of music in different ensembles. Many famous artists around the world perform his music. As a member of the Trio Balkan Strings and Duo Starcevic, as well as a soloist and the front man of the band Balkanophonia, he performs concerts all around the world. He is the president of Balkan Art, a society that represents artists and promotes musical art, especially art of the Balkans. As a composer and performer, he won many prizes, like: First prize winner of the JoAnn Falletta International Composition Competition for Guitar 2007 Buffalo, New York, with composition Asiana V and First prize winner in the World category of the 2005 USA Songwriting Competition with composition Water-mill, performed by Trio Balkan Strings.

MAJA IVANOVIC (vocal), was born in 1982, in Surdulica-Serbia. She graduated at the Belgrade Music Academy FMU, on a department for ethno-musicology, in professor Dr.Dimitrije Golemovic’s i Dr. Olivera Vasic’s class. She was engaged in research in the field of ethnomusicology and ethnochoreology, she wrote over 300 vocal, instrumental and vocal-instrumental songs. As a vocal soloist, she performed with bands Kulin ban and Vetrovi sa Balkana. She participated in international festivals in Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Hangary…She also participated several times in work of jury at the famous festival of Guca-Serbia. She lives and works in Belgrade, in a private school, Vladislav Petkovic Dis.

ZELJKO STARCEVIC (Bass Guitar) - Classical guitar and Bass guitar player, was born in 1986 and lives in Belgrade-Serbia. He graduated at the Belgrade Music Academy - FMU, in Professor Vera Ogrizovic’s class, and now he works as a classical guitar teacher in Belgrade. During his education, Zeljko has won many prizes in the national music competitions. He plays many different kinds of music, Classical, Balkan Ethnic...He is a member of Duo Starcevic and of the acoustic guitar ensemble Trio Balkan Strings, a family project where his father, brother and he compose and perform the original Balkan instrumental music.
